ai and the design process.
Nottingham Trent University | Product Design Industry Liasson Committee
2023
I organised and led a workshop along side Ian Campbell Cole exploring the potential and application of AI Text-to-Image technologies in the design process and design education. The workshop addressed critical questions such as the role of AI in design, ownership, ethical considerations, and practical applications. Participants engaged in discussions on how AI can revolutionise the design workflow, while also debating moral and ethical implications, including deep fakes, bias, and intellectual property.
The workshop aimed to foster creative collaboration between industry professionals and educators by focusing on aesthetic exploration in the early phases of product design. This approach was intended to bridge gaps between theoretical knowledge and practical application.
The workshop successfully demonstrated the necessity for the product design field to engage with generative AI, highlighting its potential and implications. Both designers and educators gained valuable insights, and the event was highly appreciated for its relevance and practical value.
