Generative AI Study

2023

“A Product of Material Algorithms” captures my first exploration into the realm of text-to-image diffusion models, a journey that has significantly reshaped my creative process in product and furniture design. Fascinated by the boundary between reality and non-reality, I have delved into how materials, as conceived by designers, could be imagined into tangible artefacts through these digital tools.

This exploration led to the creation of a series of nine material samples using Midjourney prompts, inspired by WGSN material trends. The aim was not to replicate existing styles but to understand how algorithms interpret and visualize innovative materials, challenging my understanding of material realities, pushing boundaries of design possibilities.

This project is an evolving collaboration between a visual interpreter and a visual thinker. The experience highlighted the ethical considerations of using diffusion models while affirming the blurring line between reality and non-reality in human creativity. This project, is a precursor to demonstrating the limitless potential of collaborative imagination in the age of AI.
